Outfit of the Day: Dandy Boutique Retro Dress + Discount Code! (Sponsored)

I am SO excited to announce my recent collaboration with Dandy Boutique, a quirky clothing and accessories store based in downtown Charleston. I met owner Holly recently, and she suggested that I stop by the store to pick out some outfits to feature on my blog. Dandy Boutique carries amazing independent brands such as Sugarhill Boutique, Dear Creatures, and BC Footwear, so I leapt at the opportunity for a partnership!

Outfit of the Day: That Introvert Life Featuring Lazy Oaf

I came to a realization recently that my blog is seriously lacking a diverse color palette, and that’s truly a shame because I LOVE bold, bright colors despite the monochromatic vibes my site puts out.  When I saw this bright pink “Introvert” smock-fit sailor dress on Lazy Oaf‘s site, I realized that there has never been a piece of clothing that speaks more deeply to who I am as a person (that INFJ life, tho). Outfit of the Day: In Bloom at Hyam’s Garden Center

Normally I would drone on and on about where I gathered inspiration for this outfit and provide some witty anecdote to show you all that I’m personable and really quite charming, even through a computer screen. However, this photo set by Stephanie Stein is so exquisite that I would rather the pictures speak for themselves, so I’ll keep my chatter short and sweet.

Outfit of the Day: Vintage Duds at Eclectic Cafe & Vinyl

I’m back with more photos from my main girl Stephanie Stein! Can I just take a second to gush on how much I love her work and how lucky I am that we met? We jive so well, and she executes my vision perfectly (although obviously I need to work on my body language just a tad, ha! I’ll be sure to rewatch some America’s Next Top Model to improve my “smize” and to teach myself to stop carrying so much ~tension~ in my mouth. Progress, peeps.) We’ve got some awesome projects in the works, I’ll be sure to share more deets when I can.

Outfit of the Day: Alexandrea Anissa Lingerie at Grand Bohemian Hotel

You guys, I had such a blast on my previous shoot with Stephanie Stein that her and I decided to collaborate again. We’d both heard incredible things about the atmosphere at Grand Bohemian Hotel, a boutique hotel that was recently named one of the best new hotels in Charleston by Travel + Leisure, so we thought we’d stop by for a few fancy cocktails and a couple of photos.  Y’all wanna talk about bougey, this place had it ALL:  a cozy rooftop bar with quirky seating, mirrored elevators with purple lights, crystal chandeliers; Stephanie even took a selfie in the bathroom mirror because the decor was that perfect. Outfit of the Day: ASOS Maxi Dress

At this point, it’s pretty obvious that my style errs on the vintage side, likely due to the resurgence of period TV series like That 70s Show, Mad Men, and newcomer Stranger Things (still in my queue, by the way!)  I received this floral print off-shoulder dress in from ASOS, and like clockwork my mom immediately began reminiscing about how she used to wear dresses like this one when she was a teenager.  She started to get a little wistful and my eyes started to glaze over, so I calmly backed away until I was safely out of her line of sight.  (Kidding, of course; I live for old stories. Not saying my mom is old…this isn’t going well.)

Outfit of the Day: Dreamy Photoshoot with Stephanie Stein Photography

I am SO EXCITED to share this outfit post with all of you! I took a lot of time to reflect on the blog this past year when I was at the peak of my depression, and I pondered what I could do to improve the site’s overall look and feel in correlation with my ideas.  After a lot of reflection, I realized that Cats in My Closet is honestly lacking quality photography, which is vital as a fashion blogger: we live in the age of competition, where everybody and their mother (literally, mom blogs everywhere) has a website, so photos are a strong indicator of the type of content readers can expect to see on your blog.  We’re talking a window of mere seconds before someone either says “Oh my gawd, this girl looks like the anime ingenue of my dreams” or “Ugh, pink wig, NEXT.”  Needless to say, photos are pretty important.

Outfit of the Day: Blue Wig

First things first, I’d like to wish all of you a Happy New Year! Jordan and I were both exhausted from moving into our new apartment on New Year’s Eve, but we managed to make it all the way to the midnight champagne toast at our friends’ house party, so I’m pretty proud of us even if we were in bed by 12:15.

Outfit of the Day: There’s a Cat in My Pocket

I’ve got a little stowaway in my pocket today 😉 I’m still deciding on what to name him. He looks a lot like my cat Mr. Mittens, only much thinner (Kittums has become quite the chubster).
It’s been an incredibly eventful week for me, and those of you who know me in real life, there’s big news. My computer was on the fritz, seeing as how it had OVER 1,000 VIRUSES–I didn’t even realize that was possible?!–but Geek Squad managed to fix the problem at no cost to me (thank goodness). And, the best part of the week, I got a full-time job I can use my degree for. I start at the end of the month, which means I can finally afford to move out of my parents’ house and in with Jordan! I’m glad to finally have a place of my own to decorate and where the kitties can roam to their hearts’ content.

As much as I hate living in Summerville, the aesthetics are unbeatable. I tried to capture a few shots of the Azaleas, but they were halfway dead by the time I got around to taking photos. Easy come, easy go, I suppose. I’m still trying to figure out my best poses and how to work my camera, but these photos turned out quite nice aside from the contorted expressions on my face.
At one point, a professional photographer saw me struggling(?) and offered to take pictures. I was a bit taken aback, and I got extremely uncomfortable; I only let him take a shot or two before I scurried away. Leave it to me to have such a random encounter. The up-close of my face is the one he took; I like the pose, but, again, I’m a creature of habit, and I prefer doing things on my own.

I’m on my way to setting up an editorial calendar for the blog, and I’ve been scribbling down ideas left and right. Once I start my big-girl job, then I’ll be on a set schedule to make these posts happen. Huzzah!

‘Til next time, kittens!
