Outfit of the Day: Singin’ in the Rain

I am elated to finally share these photos I took with Rosie Harper a few weeks ago! I originally stumbled across her account via a mutual friend (her portfolio absolutely blew me away), and I immediately thought to myself Oh my god, I have to shoot with her. Funnily enough, after we met, I realized that we pretty much grew up in the same area, but because of our age difference we never had the chance to meet (I was already in college when she started high school). Life is so bizarre sometimes. (Sidenote: Rosie also has a British accent, so I fell in love instantly.)

At any rate, she had a great idea for a rainy day shoot…only, the day we decided to shoot, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. She managed to work some photoshop magic to make it rain (literally), and we turned out with some stellar photos, if I do say so myself.

Outfit of the Day: Bedroom Vibes Featuring Tobi (Sponsored)

Does anybody remember the early days of blogging, where people would set up a tripod and a camera timer (or carefully hide a remote, clever girls!) and they would do the classic “bending down to tie my shoe” or “look casually to the left” poses? I miss those some days.

Outfit of the Day: Springtime Sunsets with Frenchie Vintage (Sponsored)

I know I talk about this a lot (or maybe not enough??), but anxiety is a bitch.  Even with Adavan I still feel like I’m struggling to be a normal, functioning human being on certain days.  Having anxiety when you are in a field like fashion or blogging where you’re expected to be a ~people person~ makes it incredibly difficult to find the willpower to network. (Also, does anybody else feel like “network” is such a dirty word?? Like, meeting people for the sole purpose of working together, it seems like such a bizarre social construct and sort of a nauseating byproduct of capitalism??)

Outfit of the Day: In Bloom at Hyam’s Garden Center

Normally I would drone on and on about where I gathered inspiration for this outfit and provide some witty anecdote to show you all that I’m personable and really quite charming, even through a computer screen. However, this photo set by Stephanie Stein is so exquisite that I would rather the pictures speak for themselves, so I’ll keep my chatter short and sweet.

Outfit of the Day: Pastel Goth Vibes

I decided to try something a little different and channel my inner Black Lady (aka the villain version of Chibiusa in Sailor Moon, which every moonie loves to cosplay at one point or another.)  I’ve found over the years that it’s really important to step out of your comfort zone, so I figured I should apply the same advice to my styling.  The pale pink wig juxtaposes well against my new black ribbon choker and dark (I mean DARK) lips.  I’ve been interested in dipping my toes into pastel goth, so I foresee more black lipstick looks in my future.

Outfit of the Day: ASOS Maxi Dress

At this point, it’s pretty obvious that my style errs on the vintage side, likely due to the resurgence of period TV series like That 70s Show, Mad Men, and newcomer Stranger Things (still in my queue, by the way!)  I received this floral print off-shoulder dress in from ASOS, and like clockwork my mom immediately began reminiscing about how she used to wear dresses like this one when she was a teenager.  She started to get a little wistful and my eyes started to glaze over, so I calmly backed away until I was safely out of her line of sight.  (Kidding, of course; I live for old stories. Not saying my mom is old…this isn’t going well.)

Outfit of the Day: Dreamy Photoshoot with Stephanie Stein Photography

I am SO EXCITED to share this outfit post with all of you! I took a lot of time to reflect on the blog this past year when I was at the peak of my depression, and I pondered what I could do to improve the site’s overall look and feel in correlation with my ideas.  After a lot of reflection, I realized that Cats in My Closet is honestly lacking quality photography, which is vital as a fashion blogger: we live in the age of competition, where everybody and their mother (literally, mom blogs everywhere) has a website, so photos are a strong indicator of the type of content readers can expect to see on your blog.  We’re talking a window of mere seconds before someone either says “Oh my gawd, this girl looks like the anime ingenue of my dreams” or “Ugh, pink wig, NEXT.”  Needless to say, photos are pretty important.

THE WHITEPEPPER Spring/Summer ’15 Lookbook: A Danish Dream

I’m a little tardy to the party, but whoa, I am enamored with THE WHITEPEPPER‘s latest summer editorial. THE WHITEPEPPER is one of my favorite London brands; they are most known for utilizing eye-catching novelty prints (obsessing over that firecracker popsicle print above) with a touch of vintage flair and an emphasis on street style appeal.   The brand also takes a firm stance against the mistreatment of animals, which suits a cat lady like myself just fine.
