An aspect of fashion blogging that’s important to me that I don’t emphasize enough on this blog is shopping indie. So often I see “influencers” repping these major brands like H&M or Saks Fifth Ave, but I’m much more interested in getting to know small shop owners, makers, and designers since I’m also in the independent realm with Cats in My Closet (speaking of which, can you believe that I’m less than 100 followers away from my first 1,000 mark? If you want to give me a quick follow on Instagram, it would be much appreciated!)
All photos by Stephanie Stein Photography.
When Nia Gould of Etsy shop Niaski agreed to do a collaboration, I was ecstatic because 1) she has the cat lady accessories I’ve always wanted and 2) she’s the cat pun queen (for real though, this I Knead You Valentine’s card is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and I want to buy like five of them for all of my girlfriends.) My favorites in her shop are the cat homages to famous artists such as Salvador Catli, Pablo Picatso, and Henri Catisse (I know, so good!!)

As I was piecing together this look, I really wanted to think of ways I can style enamel pins outside of my usual denim jacket fallback. My friend Kimi bought this bright pink beret for me when she was in France a few years ago, and I thought the pins would be SO cute as hat accessories. I’ve seen it done by more twee bloggers, and I absolutely love the way it turned out. Now if only I could get my hair to cooperate…
When I was out at lunch with Stephanie prior to this photoshoot, I was told that I looked like a “hipster” which is always white douchebag speak for any kind of artsy chick. I decided to run with it, and we found this colorful mural next to Taco Boy to take photos. Joke’s on you, bro, cause these pics are awesome!
‘Til next time, kittens!
